I have been having weekly French lessons with Rose for almost three years now. When I started, I was able to read relatively simple books like Le Petit Prince and L’Étranger but could neither write nor speak French with any confidence. Now, I’m reading Les Misérables with ease, and have seen remarkable improvements in my listening, speaking, and writing. That is all mostly due to Rose! She’s a thoughtful and creative teacher, funny and warm, and uses a broad range of media — books, video games, movies, Tweets — to expose you to lots of different kinds of French: written, spoken, informal, literary. I think one of her real strengths as a teacher is her ability to put you at ease and at the same time push you out of your comfort zone, which is crucial for learning any language, but especially one as intimidating as French. 

Despite being a pretty reserved person, I feel okay about making a fool of myself in front of her, which I do almost every week. She once even got me to sing. Rose is also extremely knowledgeable, not just about the French language but about literature, art, and pop culture, and she uses this knowledge to tailor your lessons to your interests. For me, for instance, that meant following an online class about French history and later watching and writing about famous French films. Our 90-minute sessions go by very quickly and are always among the most fun parts of my week.  I really can’t recommend her highly enough.

Lessons with Rose are honestly a blast! They're completely tailored around your interests, needs and what you want to learn. Each one is varied and they're always pre-planned. The lessons are split up to focus on different aspects of language learning and how you use the language changes up a lot too. Rose is patient and creates a comfortable environment which allows you to learn at your own pace. She's great at explaining grammar concepts, is always on time, but also flexible if you ever need to rearrange. Without a doubt the lessons have helped to improve my French tremendously along with my confidence to use it. Rose is genuinely a lovely person, the lessons have been very useful and they're so engaging and enjoyable that they don't feel like lessons at all.

I’ve been working with Rose for about two years now and I’ve never had a better French tutor! She's very supportive and encouraging and flexible with tailoring lesson content to your interests. She’s had me write about my idol and has had me translate blog posts about dogs! I’m even starting to understand passé composé and imparfait which I genuinely thought would never happen! I’ve been tutored by Rose for around a year and I could confidently recommend her to anyone! She is very skilled at what she does, which only becomes more evident as you are taught by her. The benefits of sessions with a native teacher who is also educated in their language is undeniable. Rose is adept at focusing your time on the areas you need help in, and as a student with attention issues, she is even better at keeping sessions engaging and fun. There are multiple pre-planned activities set over our planned period which are all used to tackle different aspects of French. The activities often feel quite modern and realistic to the media I would normally be consuming, this made it a lot more palatable than other methods of language learning can feel. I can see my personal growth during our sessions and they always feel friendly yet educational. 

As a tutor, Rose is very fair and flexible when it comes to sudden commitments, which is nice if you feel anxious about cancelling. It is always a very understanding, comfortable environment which I feel helps even more with learning. As her student, we tackled mainly pronunciation and listening, they are two areas that I felt particularly self conscious about, and feeling my self confidence and knowledge improve was such a great feeling! I can happily say that sessions with Rose allowed me to improve my French and my confidence with the language whilst enjoying myself the entire time.

I really enjoy lessons with Rose— her lessons are always fun and varied to keep it interesting. She is a patient, knowledgeable, and kind teacher. No matter where you are in learning French she’s able and willing to work with you. I took French in highschool, but hadn’t kept up with it. Patience really is one of the best things to find in a teacher. It can be tricky to work with a student that’s forgotten about half of everything, but she’s able to tease out what I remember and review rather than repeating what I already know! Somehow she’s always able to identify areas where I’m struggling the most. She’s also very comfortable to work with and willing to accommodate different learning needs and adaptable if you have a disability or other issue (she has been great with mine!). She’s extremely knowledgeable as a teacher, but also willing to learn about new things and incorporate your interests into lessons which keeps them exciting. She’s had me translate a simple article on Sappho (since I mentioned liking sapphic poets which is great since most teachers follow a more strict generalized set of lessons), fun tiktoks or youtube videos, songs, or book chapters. We also work on simple fun questions, more serious debate topics, and other activities. It’s all really enjoyable, but I can also tell a major difference in pronunciation, spelling, and comprehension of (both written and spoken) French!

I've had bi-weekly lessons with Rose for over three years and they are wonderful. She is an engaging and patient teacher, always making sure to tailor the lessons to her students' abilities, life circumstances, and even moods. Each one is varied, sometimes focusing on grammar and translation exercises, other times on transcribing and pronunciation, and at others at learning slang and colloquial phrases. Lessons are always fun and time flies by, and I'm never afraid to make mistakes or ask Rose to repeat something. She puts so much care and effort into each and every one of her students, and I cannot recommend her (or her sweet kitty Syracuse) enough.

I have been taking lessons with Rose for over three years now and my French has improved tremendously. I was a little sceptical when someone originally suggested that I take online lessons, because I usually think of myself as more of an independent learner, but I am very glad that I decided to try them out. There is definitely room for independent study and learning the parts of the language you’re most interested in, but the more structured format of lessons provides a great resource to supplement your own learning, and always helps me improve if I’m feeling stuck. Everything is very individualised, and the environment is slightly more casual than a classroom, but it is by no means less rigorous. Another advantage of the lessons is the greater cultural understanding gained. From talking with Rose and translating everyday French media together (whether it be a full novel or a random TikTok), I have learned so many specific mannerisms and pieces of slang that are very important to understanding and participating in french conversations in the real world, but that you wouldn’t necessarily pick up with other learning methods. Overall, I would highly highly recommend Rose as a teacher.

It's been just over two years since I started lessons with Rose and I've never been more grateful for choosing to do so. Prior to this I had been taking private classes that I had found for relatively cheap on a language-learning website where I was given copy-and-paste lessons that were dreadfully dull and didn't consider my erratic history of French learning. While I am paying more for these classes with Rose I believe the money is worth it for the quality of education that I have received during this time as class is always immersive and personalised to my interests, strengths and weaknesses. I am a very anxious person so I have been thankful that Rose is a responsive teacher. She has often adjusted the difficulty of class to suit my needs, patiently explained confusing concepts, and at times had me compliment myself in French. Rose is an excellent French teacher. She is patient, kind, and understanding of my limitations and she is accepting of people from different backgrounds. Rose clearly puts a lot of effort into thinking of varied class activities to suit her students’ needs, and she is also flexible and open to feedback. Her activities cover a broad range of topics and materials- no class is ever boring! She is hilarious, and she quickly put me at ease in our classes, despite how nervous I can be. I worked with Rose twice a month for about 9 months. I wanted to brush up on my French after about two years of not studying after I graduated from university and I was already familiar with (and had used in the past) her incredibly informative tumblr blog.

I definitely recommend her sessions as a supplement to regular study to anyone who wants to improve their skills! Not only are her rates very reasonable, but she is very adaptable in accommodating the areas you need improving in and creative when it comes to practice exercises. As a somewhat upper level student, I was initially hesitant because I wasn't sure how much tutoring would help me but every session it felt like she taught me further nuances that deepened my understanding of the language. Also, she tailors sessions to your interests so that you're never bored! Writing was my weakest area so I did a lot of summarizing of my favorite movies, as well as translations of articles of my choosing, and dictation of podcasts that I found interesting.

I’ve had lessons with Rose for almost a year now and I’m also doing it in school as a second language. To be honest, I look forward to my lessons with Rose more than school. I took French as a subject throughout high school and I didn’t want it to go to waste after 6 years (after all these years I still feel like I’m a beginner) so I decided to take lessons with Rose. I loved all the lessons because there was a wide range of resources and they were all very fun and interesting. She is always very understanding and flexible if there’s any problem. Rose also is super knowledgeable. When the definitions you find online is vague, she can easily distinguish the difference.

With Rose, my speaking also improved a lot! At first I struggled to make full sentences and had to look up every single word but now, it’s easier to make sentences in French!

I feel like the greatest achievement in life is getting a compliment from Rose saying that you’ve improved. Plus she’s also very nice and friendly which makes my day so much better!

I've been taking lessons with Rose for about 8 months, after having studied on my own for four years in high school and done my undergraduate education in French and Francophone studies. I originally started studying with her to study for the DELF exam, and after having taken it, it was an easy decision to continue our lessons. I honestly wish I'd learned about her sooner! I’ve been having regular lessons with Rose for several months now, and I would 100% recommend her to anyone wanting to improve their French! She is funny, patient and covers a wide variety of topics in her lessons making it feel really engaging. Lessons with Rose are always joyful. I had lessons with her before going to university because I wanted to major in French. I improved my French: I started as a complete beginner but I’ve reached B2 level in French in less than a year. I was even at the top of my class! Thanks to her, I got such good grades as well because she gives it her all: she helps you with listening, reading, writing, speaking and pronunciation! You can ask her everything, she never says it’s too much. She always answers them patiently and never drops the subject until you understand it. 

She is also very understanding and patient with me and her other students. You can make a fool of yourself or make as many mistakes as you want. She knows that that’s how you learn a language. She never gets angry or something. She is friendly and is the best at making you feel comfortable! I’ve never had a dull moment in any of our lessons. Also, there is always so much to do: translating articles, watching videos, building sentences in French, writing your own little stories! And if you worry about currency, you shouldn’t! She can definitely help you with that one too! All in all she’s much more than a teacher!
